Premier HealthNet Doctor Named Team Physician for Mason City Schools

Dr. Dale Block to Work with Students On and Off the Field

DAYTON, Ohio (October 10, 2012) – “Hut! Hut! Hike!” The high school football season is in full swing. Along with the busy fall sports schedule of daily practices and weekly games come strains, sprains, bumps and breaks. This year, Dale Block, MD, a Premier HealthNet physician, will guide the sports medicine and athletic training services of Mason City Schools athletes as the team physician.

In this role, Dr. Block will assist middle school and high school athletic teams,  work directly with the school’s athletic trainers and administer an injury clinic for middle school students. When athletes need more medical attention than can be provided on the field, Dr. Block will refer  the students to their primary care physician or to his own office..  As part of his responsibilities, Dr. Block will attend all middle school football games and most Friday night varsity football games.

Dr. Block’s work with the school system doesn’t stop there. His practice, Premier Family Care of Mason, is also located on school grounds. “It was put here to be multi-dimensional in that it has sports medicine and a physical therapy center, but we also have radiology, laboratory services and a primary care practice,” said Dr. Block.  “The goal is to eventually work with the school district in being its primary provider for not only sports medicine, but also primary care and occupational medicine.”

Last year, Dr. Block began working with the anatomy and physiology students as a content expert. “I lectured on pulmonary diseases while they were studying the respiratory system,” said Dr. Block. “Many of these students are interested in the health profession, so we had them come over and tour the office where they had a chance to ask questions.  As a result, some are even coming over to start shadowing when I see patients. “
