Premier HealthNet Doctor Named Team Physician for Mason City Schools

Dr. Dale Block to Work with Students On and Off the Field

Mason, Ohio (October 30, 2012) – From football and basketball to volleyball and track, student athletes keep busy all year long. Daily practices, games, matches and meets can be hard on a student’s body, meaning strains, sprains, bumps and breaks. This year, Dale Block, MD, a Premier HealthNet physician, will serve as the team physician for athletes at Mason City Schools.

In this role, Dr. Block will assist middle school and high school athletic teams, work directly with the school’s athletic trainers and administer an injury clinic for middle school students. When athletes need more medical attention than can be provided on the field, Dr. Block will refer students to their primary care physician or to his own office.

Dr. Block’s work with the school system doesn’t stop there. His practice, Premier Family Care of Mason, is located in the Atrium Medical Center building on school grounds. “This facility is multi-dimensional in that it has a sports medicine and physical therapy center, imaging, laboratory services, occupational health services and a primary care practice,” said Dr. Block.  “The goal is to eventually work with the school district in being its primary provider for not only sports medicine, but also primary care and occupational medicine.”

Last year, Dr. Block began working with the anatomy and physiology students as a content expert. “I lectured on pulmonary diseases while they were studying the respiratory system,” said Dr. Block. “Many of these students are interested in the health profession, so we had them come over and tour the office where they had a chance to ask questions.  As a result, some are even coming over to start shadowing when I see patients. “
