Annual Preventative Health Visits

No matter your age, annual preventative health visits with your primary care provider are good for your health and well-being. They can help you prevent illness. And they can help your doctor detect conditions early, when they are easier to treat.

Most insurance plans and Medicare cover annual preventative visits, often at no cost to you.

Premier Physician Network providers offer annual preventative health visits for every stage of life. These visits typically include:

  • Screenings: Your provider will help determine a plan for screenings you will need for the next five to 10 years, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, breast or colon cancer, depression, and more.
  • Immunizations:  Your provider will check to see if you or your child are up to date on immunizations and may give needed vaccinations during your visit.
  • Counseling: Your provider will talk with you to determine if you could benefit from counseling in areas such as nutrition, depression, and alcohol.

Well-Child Visits, Birth to Age 18

Most insurance will cover an Annual Well-Child Visit for children up to age 18, often at no cost.

During a well-child visit your child's doctor will check growth and development, test vision and hearing starting at age 4, and give vaccinations that are due. And this is a good time to talk with your child’s health care provider about any concerns you may have about your child.

If your child hasn’t had a free annual Well-Child Visit yet, call your doctor’s office today.

Annual Preventative Physical: Men and Women, 18-65

Most costs for annual preventative screenings and services for adults are covered by health insurance. Your provider’s office can help to see if you’re covered.

In addition to a full physical exam, annual preventative visits include:

  • Screenings: Providers help determine a screening plan for the next five to 10 years for blood pressure, cholesterol, breast cancer, sexually transmitted infections, diabetes, depression, addiction, and more.
  • Immunizations: Your health care provider will check to see if you are up to date on immunizations, such as tetanus, yearly influenza, varicella, pneumological, HPV, and more.
  • Counseling: Your doctor will talk with you to see if you could benefit from counseling for concerns such as diet, obesity, sexually transmitted infection risk, tobacco use, alcohol misuse, and more.

  • Screenings: Your health care provider will develop a screening plan for you for the next year, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, cervical cancer, breast cancer, sexually transmitted infections, diabetes, and more.

Welcome to Medicare: Men and Women Turning 65

Medicare will cover a free Welcome to Medicare Visit, at no cost within the first 12 months you have Medicare Part B.

During a Welcome to Medicare Visit, you will talk with your health care provider about your health history, health concerns, and review your medications and immunizations.

Although this visit is not a physical, certain measurements will be taken, such as height, weight, blood pressure, and your body mass index. The visit also will include a simple vision test, and a review of your level of safety. This visit will help your doctor determine if you have health issues that could become a concern in the future. Your doctor will talk with you about how to prevent them.

A Welcome to Medicare Visit also includes:

  • Screenings: Your provider will help determine or update a five- to 10-year screening plan for you, to include blood pressure, cholesterol, colon and breast cancer, diabetes, and more.
  • Immunizations:  Your doctor will make sure you are up-to-date on immunizations and may give needed vaccinations during the visit, such as tetanus, yearly influenza, varicella, pneumological, zoster, and more.
  • Counseling: Your doctor will also see if you could benefit from counseling in areas such as diet, obesity, tobacco and alcohol use, daily aspirin therapy, depression, addiction, and more.

With your health care provider, you can make plans to live healthier. Do it for yourself and the people who love you.

Annual Wellness Visit: Men and Women, 65 and Older

Also, you will fill out a questionnaire, called a “Health Risk Assessment,” to help determine if any health issues could become a concern in the future. Your provider will advise you on how to prevent them.

Your Annual Wellness Visit also will cover:

  • Screenings: Your doctor will help determine, or update, a five- to 10-year screening plan for you, including blood pressure, cholesterol, colon and breast cancer, diabetes, and more.
  • Immunizations: Your provider will check to make sure you are up to date on immunizations and may give needed vaccinations during this visit, such as tetanus, yearly influenza, varicella, pneumological, zoster, and more.
  • Counseling: Your provider will determine if you could benefit from counseling in areas such as diet, obesity, tobacco and alcohol use, depression, and more.

With your health care provider, you can make plans to live healthier. Do it for yourself and the people who love you.
